Unten auf dem Sockel bezeichnet „JOHA./ STRADANES“.
Der 1523 in Brügge geborene Künstler war Schüler von Pieter Aertsen und seit 1645 in der St. Lukas Gilde in Antwerpen eingeschrieben. 1550 zog es ihn nach Rom und drei Jahre später zog er nach Florenz, wo er bis zu seinem Tode 1605 wirkte.
Als Vorbild für die vorliegende schöne Allegorie gilt eine gleiche Komposition, welche beim RKD in Den Haag unter Nummer 117498 geführt wird und im Seattle Art Museum verwahrt wird. Das vorliegende Gemälde ist beim RKD in Den Haag ebenfalls registriert (Nr. 253459) und wird als vermutlich nach Jan van der Straet (Johannes Stradanus) geführt.

The painting on offer for sale here is also listed at the RKD in The Hague (no. 253459) and is listed as probably by Jan van der Straet (Johannes Stradanus).
