Signed oil painting on a canvas painted by the painter John Bevort 1917 - 1996. The image is boats in a canal with the city in the background. The dimensions of the canvas are 50 cm x 60 cm. With the frame the dimensions are 80 cm x 70 cm. The painting is in excellent condition and expensively framed. J. H. H. (John) Bévort Painter John Bévort was born on 30 November 1917 in Utrecht. He died on 31st January 1996 in Schoorl. His full name is Johannes Hubertus Hendrikus Bévort. His nickname was Jan Bévort and John Bévort. Background John Bévort John was a pupil at the Academy Artibus in Utrecht. There he was also taught by the well-known industrial artist Cris Agterberg (1883-1948) . He also received lessons from painter G. Nijenhuis from Utrecht. During the Second World War, John rented a room in an old monastery, to paint there as well. Later he had his own gallery in the Choorstraat in Utrecht and his studio in the basement. But after some time he no longer liked business life, because he only wanted to paint. Together with his friend and student Peter Brouwer, he bought a piece of land in 1960 in the village of Schoorl (North-Holland) . On this land they had a house and studio built. Peter was namely also a painter. In addition, he was a close friend and former pupil of John. Peter also lived with the Bévort family. Because of this location of their studio they were after a while called the Schoorl painters. Topics Artist John Bévort was an impressionist, as he worked mainly with a palette knife and painting knife. John is best known for his naturalistic landscapes, such as: hunting scenes, beach- and seascapes. He has also painted other subjects, for example; cityscapes, lakes, sail boats and church interiors. Because of his holidays in Spain and Italy, he painted Southern European scenes under the nickname "Camprio". In the early days of his painting career he was also temporarily called Jan Bévort. John made many reproductions of his work. He gained international fame with exhibitions in Europe and the United States. John Bévort was a member of the International Organization of Free Art. In addition, he taught at the famous painters Peter Brouwer and Gerard Ernens.
