(New York/Conneciticut/England, 1756 - 1843) Original graphite on paper portrait of Revolutionary War General Philip Schuyler the war hero and father inlaw of Alexander Hamilton. Schuyler was one of George Washgtons most trusted generals and advisors. The work is not laid down and shows its watermark nice and clearly on the original paper. The backside is titled by Trumbull and reads as well, " The Drawing is the Gift of John Trumbull to George C. Garnette. Maj. General Philip Schuyler. Some yellowing consistent with age. Some scattered foxing consistent with age. Very original, well preserved condition. H7 1/2" W7 1/2" (with full margins having not been laid down) The work was recently discovered within the collection of an early Charleston, South Carolina family. Sold from the collection of a Charleston, South Carolina lady and gentleman.
