John E. Poti (American, 1927-2016)

Mr. Poti was born in Hungary and came to the United States when he was 14 months old. While attending Harvey Rice Elementary School in Cleveland, a teacher recognized his creative talent and placed him in charge of chalkboard illustrations. John's unique artistry was continually enriched on his weekends by attending classes at the Cleveland Museum of Art. After graduating from East Technical High School, Poti entered into military service during World War II and served in the United States Army Signal Corp as a cryptographic technician. He attended Ohio Wesleyan University earning his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, then further developed his training and graduated from the presitgeous Cleveland Institute of Art. Poti spent more than thirty years teaching art from elementary to high school pupils, and even adults in Cleveland, Ashtabula, and Bedford, Ohio. While at Bedford, he served in the capacity as Supervisor of Art for the entire school system. In addition, he once again returned to the Cleveland Museum of Art, but this time as an instructor, to inspire and guide other students.

Condition: Very good, minor blemish/surface scratch to left center edge. Some staining to linen liner.
