John F. Kennedy's Hair, with Signature Card and 2 Photos - This lot features an actual strand of President John F. Kennedy's hair, the authenticity of which has been verified by credible provenance. This lot also includes an original signature of John F. Kennedy, as well as two striking black and white photos of the 35th President of the United States. Prior to his political career, John F. Kennedy served the U.S. Navy in World War II, achieving the rank of lieutenant in command of a fleet of PT vessels in the Pacific Theater. He was awarded the prestigious Navy and Marine Corps Medal for his heroics in rescuing fellow sailors, and upon the conclusion of the war, Kennedy transitioned into politics, serving first as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for the 11th district of Massachusetts. He then served as the junior U.S. Senator from Massachusetts from 1953 until 1960, when he defeated incumbent Vice President Richard Nixon in the 1960 Presidential election. Ascending the Presidency during the height of the Cold War, President Kennedy's administration was characterized by a period of extreme global tensions and threats of nuclear warfare. Kennedy was the first president to sign a nuclear arms treaty, and was also responsible for establishment of the Peace Corps. Kennedy was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald towards the end of his third year in office and was succeeded by Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson, yet his Presidential legacy was posthumously enacted through Congress's approval of his Civil Rights Amendment of 1964 and Revenue Act of 1964. This framed lot measures approximately 20 in x 16 in, and includes the original certificate of authenticity, in addition to a serial number assigned to the strand of hair to confirm its veracity.
