Hand-addressed and free-franked mailing envelope, measures 11 x 7.75 unfolded, addressed in Adams's hand to the governor of Virginia, "His Excellency, Thomas M. Randolph, Governor of the State of Virginia, Richmond," and franked in the upper right, "Department of State, J. Q. Adams." Postmarked "Free" at Washington on March 6th, [1819–1822]. In very good to fine condition, with old tape to both front and back, reinforcing tears and fold splits; Adams's signature is completely unaffected.
