A painter, commercial artist and teacher, John Squire Adams was also an art instructor in schools in San Antonio, Texas, where he taught Texas artist Helen Hunter. Before moving to Texas, he lived in Cleveland, Ohio in the 1940s. He was a student of the Cleveland School of Art, and in Texas at Trinity University, where he earned a Bachelor of Art degree. Memberships included the San Antonio Art League; Cleveland Society of Artists; and the Texas Watercolor Society. Among exhibition venues were the Cleveland Museum of Art in 1935 (prize); San Antonio Art League, 1947 to 1958; Witte Memorial Museum, 1950 (prize); Arneson Theatre Exhibiton, 1950, (prize); and Texas Watercolor Exhibition, 1957 and 1958.
