A letter from Angelica Arenal de Siqueiros, the wife of Mexican muralist David Alfaro Siqueiros (Mexico 1896-1974). Her husband has been jailed and she is asking Steinbeck to write the president of Mexico for a second time on her husbands behalf. Dated December 8th 1960. Letter from Jimmy Costello, Editor of the Monterey Herald, regarding the renovation of Cannery Row by the town of Monterey. Including tearing down Ed Ricketts lab. Undated Letter from Norman Berg forwarding a letter by Author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. In it Rawlings is thankful her novel The Yearling did not come out the same year as The Grapes of Wrath. She goes on to praise Steinbeck as better than Faulkner and Hemingway. Berg letter dated April 28th 1958. Rawling letter dated June 4th 1939. John Steinbeck signature on verso of Rawling's letter. Letter from Dr. Thaddeus St. Martin thanking Steinbeck for a copy of Travels with Charley. With a response from Steinbecks Secretary Janet Beckman. Dated December 10th 1962. Simon Executive Editor of Simon and Schuster enclosing a copy of Josephine Johnson's THE DARK TRAVELER asking Steinbeck to read it and write some words of commendation. With a reply by Steinbeck Secretary Janet Beckman. Simon letter dated January 17 1963. Reply dated January 22nd 1963.
