John T. Scopes
American educator (1900-1970) who defied state law in Tennessee by teaching the theory of evolution, precipitating the famous 'Monkey Trial' trial in 1925. He was convicted and received a nominal fine, but the decision was ultimately reversed on a technicality. Signed book: Center of the Storm: Memoirs of John T. Scopes. Second printing.
