This painting represents a collaboration between two artists, with the landscape and grotto painted by Joos de Momper and the figures and animals that animate the scenery given to Jan Brueghel the Younger. The very loose execution of the landscape allow Klaus Ertz to date the present work in his current certificate to Joos de Momper's late period of around 1625 to 1630.
