An authentic Tony Award presentation medallion. Officially, the Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Broadway Theatre, conferred by the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League in recognition of excellence in live Broadway theatre. Rendered in solid sterling silver. The face of the medallion portrays an adaptation of the comedy and tragedy masks. Designed by Herman Rosse (Dutch American, 1887-1965). Verso reads THE AMERICAN THEATRE WING PRESENTS TO JOSE FERRER THIS AWARD FOR HIS PERFORMANCE IN "THE SHRIKE" 1951-52. Stamped on rim "Sterling". Accompanied with original custom fitted case. The recipient, Jose Ferrer, won a total of five Tony Awards. Ferrer, the uncle of actor George Clooney, was also the first Hispanic actor to win an Academy Award. In the original hard shell felt lined presentation case, with original hand written label FERRER. Provenance: From the estate of Academy Award winning actor Jose Ferrer (1912-1992).
