José Manuel Círia is one of the most outstanding artists of his generation and a central figure in the panorama of Spanish painting in recent decades.

He was born in Manchester in 1960, to Spanish parents, remaining in England until he was eight years old, when his parents decided to return to Madrid.

Its appearance on the artistic scene took place in the mid-eighties and, especially during the nineties, it began to reveal solid artistic maturity.

With premature international recognition that was revealed in 1992 by the awarding of prizes in several Spanish cities, Ciria has since held numerous collective and individual exhibitions, as well as the publication of several texts, books and monographic catalogs that discuss her work.

It was the artist himself, in 1996, who defined five fundamental points for the exercise of artistic doctrine: Historical knowledge, assimilation of tradition, constant search for innovation, personal experience and, finally, one's own personal artistic practice. And the truth is that he has revealed, both in his attitude as an artist and in his work, all five.
