Josef Čapek (1887–1945) was born in Hronov. In the years 1904–1910, he studied at the Prague School of Arts and Crafts under professors Dítěte and Maško. A clash of opinions over the perception of Picasso and Braqua was the reason for his departure from the Group of Visual Artists. He was a member of the Hardneck group. An analogous work is in the collections of the Moravian Gallery under the inventory number C 30028.
