Josef Čapek's illustration for the Tramp's tale about František Králov, who is unjustly imprisoned for stealing a suitcase with money. In addition to his artistic activity, Josef Čapek was also active as a publicist and writer. His personal understanding and absorption of Cubism is among the best and most original that Czech modern art has given to the world. Immediately after the outbreak of the Second World War, Čapek was arrested, he died in a concentration camp shortly before the end of the war in April 1945. His works are traditionally among the most attractive for collectors on the auction market.
