Josefine Toft: "The Healing" Bonbonnière in hand-turned maple.
Josefine Toft
“The Healing” Bonbonnière in hand-turned ash wood. Ø28 cm.
The works originate from an exhibition at Rungstedlund, “Wildly Refined”. The exhibition revolves around the tension between the wild and the meticulously crafted. In their works, a playful artistic expression and refined craftsmanship converge, where wood and metal are both freed, shaped, and staged. In Billgren’s silver casts and Toft’s finely carved wooden pieces, the flower emerges as both motif and material – fragile yet powerful. Through repetition, variation, and the precise work of the hand, the pieces unfold a narrative of transformation, states of being, and the sensory encounter between material, body, and nature.
Josefine Toft (b. 1989) is a cabinetmaker and trained at the workshop of the Royal Palace in Copenhagen. Her work is rooted in classical techniques and principles of design, to which she adds a contemporary expression inspired by both Scandinavian and Japanese design traditions. Toft is particularly inspired by the French Renaissance technique of intarsia, which she reinterprets in her works, where ornamentation meets a sleek, feminine, and modern design.
