Contrary to what is usually a constant in most artists, Martínez Lozano did not feel in his childhood any special inclination toward the plastic arts, so it will not be until his youth that he will begin to paint in a determined manner. But, opting to devote himself fully to painting, he had to face an important family opposition, without it being able to prevent him from consolidating his vocation as a painter. At the beginning of the 1940s, he began his academic training at the School of Arts and Crafts of Barcelona, where he received the first basic notions of drawing technique from the Sabadell teacher Domènech Soler. Later, he was a disciple of Ramon Sanvicens and Joaquim Terruella. His individual presentation took place in Figueras, in Can Fortunet, in 1946. In the Empordà capital, where he had to move during the time of military service, he was fortunate to be able to get in touch with various personalities of cultural life there, which gave him all the sincere and decisive support. Among them there were Josep M. Fortunet, Dr. Alfons Puig, the journalist Manuel Brunet and the watercolourist Ramon Reig. Thanks to a scholarship granted by the Diputación de Girona, he expanded his artistic studies in Venice, where he will make friends with the eighteenth-century painter Giuseppe Quirubini. And it will be, precisely, a series of works on themes of the City of Canals that will show in his first solo exhibition, held in Barcelona in the framework of the Gaspar room, the year 1951. In this same year he made his presentation in Madrid, in the Sala Dardo, and, a short time later, he set up workshops in Montblanc, Tarragona and Llançà (Girona) , a town in which he had already founded the Escola d'arts i oficis, as well as he had done in Campo de Criptana, in la Mancha (where he arrived in an ass called “Sandalio”, after traveling all over Spain) . Later, it was also the town in which the museu de l'aquarel•la was located, under the patronage of the foundation that bears his name and where an immense part of his works are collected. He has been an inveterate traveller, has toured France, England, Italy, Belgium, Romania, Portugal . . . And he has worked and exhibited in many cities in these countries. In 1956 he established his residence in Terrassa (Barcelona) , which alternates seasonally in Llançà. Among the prizes he has won, we must highlight the Nacional d’Aquarel·la in 1975 and the first Premis from the Diputació de Girona and the Cercle de Belles Arts of Palma de Mallorca. Among other locations, his works are included in the Museu de l'Empordà, de Figueres (Girona) ; in the Pinacoteca of the Diputación de Girona; in the Museu de Montblanc; in the Museu Alegre of Sagrera de Terrassa (Barcelona) and in Llegat "Francesc galí" of Palamós (Girona) .
