He began drawing his first drawings at the age of 10, under the mastery of the painter Francisco Vidal Palmada. After his Military Service, he settled in Barcelona, a city where he frequented the Sant Lluc Artistic Circle and the Royal Artistic Circle. His professional career began in 1956 as an illustrator. The first solo exhibitions began in Vilafranca del Penedès in 1958. The next one was in the Sala Rovira in Barcelona. In addition, every summer he exhibited in Palamós, where he had a studio. With an impressionist style, defined more by painting than drawing, he based his work on reflecting the light of the Costa Brava. The marinas are characterized by the human component, the fishermen and above all by the boats appear. The moving landscape of his painting transmits his knowledge of the sea, fishing and the nature of the different types of boats; a painting that allows them to be clearly identified. In Sarquella's work, the oils focused on the Optimist class boats and the Christmas Race regatta, from which he wanted to highlight the movement of the sails, also stand out. In the artistic sphere, Palamós established relationships with other painters such as Ezequiel Torroella, Pere Coll, Joan Prat and Joaquim Comes, and also with painters from Barcelona. He was president of the Artistic Circle of Palamós. Throughout his career he won several painting competitions and prizes, and received numerous distinctions. He exhibited individually or collectively in Catalonia, Valencia, the Basque Country, Madrid, France, the Netherlands and Santo Domingo. In 2002 he was named adoptive son of the city of Palamós, posthumously.
