Joseph, Duke of Saxe, Generalfeldmarschall 1750s engraving by Fritzsch Framed

"Joseph Friedrich, Duke of Saxe-Hildburghausen", antique copper engraving by Johann Christian Gottfried Fritzsch, signed in plate "Fritzsch." Half-length with tied wig, lace tie, armor, ermine mantle, and the Order of the Golden Fleece, German inscription below, 1750s. Framed in double mat and glass frame.

Cut to design, 3.1/8" x c.5.1/2" [84mm x 138mm]; the engraving is attached to the larger laid paper; double picture mat, glass frame 9.1/2" x 12" [one frame corner is slightly damaged], some aging, very good condition.

Authentic eighteenth-century copper engraving.

The COA is included.

Duke Joseph Friedrich (1702-1787) war Prince and Regent of Sachsen-Hildburghausen. He served as Imperial Generalfeldmarschall of Austrian Habsburg monarchy.

Reference:
Another copy of this engraving is located in the Oesterreichische Nationalbibliothek [Austrian National Library]. There are 19 engravings by Fritzsch in the collection of British Museum. This particular engraving is not present.

Johann Christian Gottfried Fritzsch (1720-1802/3) born and died in Hamburg. Also active in Leipzig and Amsterdam between 1751-57.

Provenance:
This engraving comes from a collection of engravings bound by the German art collector "A.L." The finalized collection of hand-numbered engravings is dated 1762 which provides additional warranty that the engravings are authentic and created prior to 1762; auctioned in London, UK.
