Beautiful work by this well-known Belgian entrepreneur and painter with many friends in the art circle. Work and frame are in good and original condition. Clearly signed. Biography. Throughout his life, Jozef De Coene was a passionate painter, especially of landscapes and still lifes. In 1899, together with Victor Verougstraete, he founded the circle ‘Onze kunst om beters wille’, later shortened to ‘Onze Kunst’. [7] He was influenced by his friend Albert Saverys and of the Latemse school. Although later somewhat forgotten, his contemporaries appreciated his pictorial paintings. They even had a retrospective exhibition at the Paleis voor Schone Kunsten (1938) . Some of his paintings, including a self-portrait, can be seen in the Broel museum.
