Helene Sedlmayr, Munich (presumably a gift of King Ludwig I, thence by descent to the present owner)
Addendum/ErratumWith a certificate by Dr. Ulrike von Hase-Schmundt, Munich, dated 19 May 2023. The work will be included in the new edition of her catalogue raisonné of Karl Joseph Stieler. According to Stieler’s cash book entry, she dates the painting to 1831 and confirms that it was a gift from King Ludwig I to Helene Sedlmayr.
