In full:

"We are in receipt of your letter of May 15th, with copies of telegrams between Mr. Hurley and yourself regarding the visit of Miss Sarah S. Goodwin and friends to this Plant. The writer telephoned Mr. Barber at Washington today and told him that we had an invariable rule that we never allow visitors on sight-seeing tours except on the occasions of launchings. We told him that we would be very glad to have Miss Goodwin and three or four friends come to the next launching.
If this is agreeable to you and Miss Goodwin, will you kindly advise us and we will notify Miss Goodwin when the next launching takes place, which we hope will be within the next two or three weeks.
Trusting that this will prove satisfactory to both yourself and Miss Goodwin…."

Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. (1888-1969) was the patriarch of the Kennedy family, father to John and Robert Kennedy. During World War I, he was an assistant general manager of a Boston area Bethlehem Steel shipyard, and it was through this position that he became acquainted with Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was the Assistant Secretary of the Navy. Kennedy would go on to serve under President Franklin D. Roosevelt as Chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Chair of the U.S. Maritime Commission, and U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
