In 1954th finished National Academy of Arts, Department of Monumental Painting. In 1970th in Tartu University he has approved Candidate of Science thesis.(approved 1971). In 1954th he first time participated in art exibition, and has his first publication in the press.
His books include "Krishjanis Kugra" (1959), "Lize Cuckoo" (1961), and others.
Several widely essays remained in manuscript. Created a memorial space Purvītis native home Zaubes "Vecjaužos" (now Taurupes) parish (after the change of ownership no longer exists).
In 1961-1977 has worked at the State Academy of Art, Art History material storage. He was a teacher at the VMA. In 1961-1963 managed VEF Culture Palace and technical studies in Fine Art Drawing and Painting Department.
