K. Griesbaum Singing Bird Box with Timepiece

Griesbaum bird box with timepiece has an exceptional 2 tone silvered and gilt brass case with blue enamel panels having white enamel borders, the sides and back have round scenic panels; the top of the case has an enameled forest scene with a woman on a swing on the oval lid, to the right a young boy pulls the ropes to swing her and a man is lying in the grass to the left. A small lever hidden behind a compartment in the front of the case lifts the hinged lid on the top and exposes the animated feathered bird which flaps its wings and swivels back and forth while whistling a tune; the rear of the case also has a hidden hinged compartment. The case front has a square silvered dial signed "Angelus" with applied gilt brass hour numbers and brass bezel; has a spring driven 8 day time only Swiss movement which winds, sets and runs. Case is in excellent condition with no losses to the enamel, time and animated mechanism are working; signed on the bottom with "K.G." & bird mark over "Made in Germany" for Karl Griesbaum.
