KALTENBRUNNER ERNST: (1903-1946) Austrian SS-Obergruppenfuhrer, Director of the Reich Security Main Office 1943-45 and President of Interpol 1943-45. T.L.S., E Kaltenbrunner, one page, 4to, Vienna, 19th March 1940, to Gauleiter [Joseph] Burckel, in German. Kaltenbrunner sends his correspondent an instruction (no longer present) for the Landerbank A.G. in Vienna with the request that he sign it, further remarking 'This is about payment of the tax arrears of the Jew Dr. Emil Pollak from the seized assets of the named Jew'. Kaltenbrunner concludes by asking that the instruction be returned to him after completion 'so that I can then arrange for further action'. Two file holes to the left edge and a small tear to the upper and lower edges, previously repaired with tape (no longer present, although with light staining) and some light overall creasing, G Joseph Burckel (1895-1944) German politician, an early member of the Nazi Party who was influential in the rise of the National Socialist movement. Burckel, an SS-Obergruppenfuhrer, served as Reich Commissioner of Austria 1938-40.
