KARL PETER RÖHL (1890 - 1975, GERMAN)
Untitled.

Paper collage on paper, 1922. Signed, Karl Peter Röhl, and dated, 1922, in lower margin. 420x300 mm; 16½x11¾ inches, (sheet).

Provenance: The family of the artist; Galerie Gmurzynska, Cologne; The Eugene J Prakapas and Dorothy Prakapas Collection, inventory number 47580.

Sold on behalf of The Eugene J Prakapas and Dorothy Prakapas Collection in memory of Thomas C. Mendenhall, to benefit a scholarship fund at Yale University.

Dorothy and Eugene Prakapas opened Prakapas Gallery in New York City in 1976. At that time very few galleries focused on photography, much less on works by artists using experimental techniques, as was the case with Prakapas Gallery. Eugene brought to the gallery a diverse background having served in the U.S. Navy, studied on a Fullbright scholarship, then worked as Editor-in-Cheif at Trident Press and Pocket Books, divisions of Simon and Schuster, followed by four years as Co-Director of Carus Gallery. The gallerists' varied artistic curiosity can be seen in the diversity of works from their collection, sold here as lots: 15, 16, 44-46, 107-112, 118, and 119.
