KEMBLE E. W.: (1861-1933) American Illustrator of the first edition of Mark Twain's Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, also remembered for his racist caricatures of African Americans. A printed 6.5 x 11 illustration by Kemble, possibly removed from a book, depicting a black man standing in a full length profile pose and holding an axe in one hand, with the caption 'Uncle Jimmy, New Orleans', signed by Kemble in black fountain pen ink with his name alone to a clear area at the base. A couple of light creases to the upper edge and a small tear to the lower edge, not affecting the image or signature, otherwise VG
