KEULEN, Gerard van (1678-1726) and Johannes van KEULEN II (1704-1755). Nieuwe Gelijk Gradige of Platte Zekaart Van Het Noorder deel van Europa Vertoonende de Geheele Groenlandse En Moskovise Scheepvaard Waer in Elk de Miswijsinge Van het Compas selver moet Verbeeteren. Amsterdam: [c.1734].

Impressive map of the Arctic Ocean, stretching from Iceland and Greenland in the west to Novaya Zemlya in the east, with Spitzbergen and the North Cape delineated in detail. For such a small-scale map, the level of detail is excellent, and includes the location of the Moskstraumen, the infamous whirlpool in the Lofoten archipelago off the Norwegian coast. Moreover, for what purports to be a sea chart, there is attention to inland detail, with the volcano Hekla smoking in the interior of Iceland. The map appeared in the Nieuwe Groote Ligtende Zee-fakkel in 1734. Koeman IV, Keu 45, chart 201.

Double-page engraved map on 2 joined-sheets, folded twice, rhumb lines intersecting in 2 compass roses, soundings and shoals shown, title and scales within plain cartouches, 602 x 1013mm (plate mark), 638 x 1050mm (sheet).
