A Satsuma Small Moon flask
Meiji era (1868-1912),late 19th/early 20th century
Decorated in enamels and gilt, one side depicting a fisherman and his son on the shores of a lake looking up at a tennin (Buddhist angel) playing a flute alluding to the Noh play Hagoromo, Mount Fuji in the distance, the other side with a group of children using stalks of bamboo reeds as a takeuma (hobby horse), the sides of the vase with repeated patterns of shippo-tsunagi (linked-cash) and stylised flower heads; signed on the base with seal Kinkozan. 10.2cm (4in) high.
