KINNEY BIRD IN RED WING BLACKBIRD
A creation of Herbert Kinney of Tampa, Florida, starting in 1919 and originally produced under the name “H.A. Kinney Co.”. This legendary classic was not patented until his partnership with Heddon began in about 1927, and this relationship would only last between one and two years. During that short time, though, Heddon is known to have painted at least five distinct patterns on the Kinney Bird. This example grades About Good with some chips, a bit of varnish flaking and / or overvarnishing, and some hardware oxidation. Both glass eyes are blemish free. It was originally advertised as “The World’s First Bird Lure”, and this iconic bait with Michigan and Florida connections continues to resonate with collectors more than most other baits. Dimensions: 4" L.
