This painting was previously attributed to Hendrick de Meyer (1637-1638). Stylistically, however, it is closer to the work of the Haarlem painter Klaes Molenaer. A winter landscape sold at Sotheby's, London, 3-4.07.2013, lot 178 shows a similar approach to painting the snowy grass. The signed paintings in the
Museum Boijmans van Beuningen (inv. 1531 (OK) and 1532 (OK)) show slightly more nuance and a more refined use of the brush. In addition, Molenaer usually signs his paintings in a refined handwriting in black paint: 'K molenaer'.

Dit schilderij werd vroeger toegeschreven aan Hendrick de Meyer (1637-1638). Stilistisch sluit het echter dichter aan bij het werk van de Haarlemse schilder Klaes Molenaer. Een winterlandschap verkocht bij Sotheby's, Londen, 3-4.07.2013, lot 178 vertoont een gelijkaardige benadering tot het schilderen van het besneeuwde gras. De gesigneerde schilderijen in het
Museum Boijmans van Beuningen (inv. 1531 (OK) en 1532 (OK)) vertonen dan weer iets meer nuance en een verfijnder hanteren van het penseel. Daarnaast signeert Molenaer meestal in een zwierig handschrift 'K molenaer'.

Condition: - Some damages on the outer rims of the panel. Especially on the upper and the rightside rim. - The joints in between the panels were damaged. Retouchings are visible with UV-light on three horizontal lines dividing the entire panel.
