(only some very min. browning towards the margins and a single damp stain). - The first two parts only of the first edition of this splendid work by Knorr (1705-1761), German palaeontologist, painter, engraver & art dealer. Illustrated with 2 beautiful engraved titles and 60 hand-coloured engraved pl. featuring all sorts of shells. At the end of each part a classification table made after Rumpf and Linnaeus. - Ref. Nissen (ZBI) 2235. - BnF. - COPAC. - Joined: Moquin-Tandon, A. [Pseud. Frédol, A.] - Le monde de la mer. Illustré de 21 planches sur acier tirées en couleur et de 200 vignettes sur bois dessinées par P. Lackerbauer. Paris, Hachette et Cie, 1865. 4to: vii-632 pp. (some spotting, one pl. missing). Contemp. quarter shagreen, blindst. aubergine buckram covers, spine with 4 raised bands (faded), a.e.g. Later edition (first 1863) by the French naturalist and doctor Moquin-Tandon (1804-1863).
