An antique, striking suji’bachi kabuto (helmet with ridges) surmounted by a bronze maedate (fore crest) shaped like a full moon emerging between a pair of short kuwagata-antlers.

The 32-plate ‘russet iron’ bowl surmounted by a 5-tiered shibuichi tehen’no’kanamono (decorative apex fitting) . The visor (mabizashi) finished in black lacquer and flanked by a pair of small rectangular, arched fukigaeshi (face guards) covered with decorative ‘smoked’ leather fitted with a pair of small appliques shaped like bell flowers (kikyô) .
The wide four-lame ‘kiritsuke iyozane’-plate shikoro (neck guard) lacquered black as well and laced with navy blue silk cords with a multi-coloured and orange silk hem.

Period: Japan - Early Meiji period (Second half 19th century) .

Seen its age, approx. 125-175 years old, it is in a very good condition with some traces of wear consistent with age. Maedate with restoration at the back. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.
