A Japanese landscape painting depicting a house amidst tall trees with tall mountains in back ground, ink and colour on silk mounted as hanging scroll, signed Unrin with two seals of the artist, 122 x 49cm, with Japanese wood box.

cf. Kaito Unrin was born in Takayama, Hida province, also known as Kinrei and Uchikusai. Eldest son of the painter KAKIUCHI Utsun. He first learnt painting from his father, but around 1867 (Keio 3) he went to Kyoto to study under Shiokawa Bunrin. In 1882 (Meiji 15), he was awarded a prize at the National Painting Exhibition. In 1884 (Meiji 17) he taught at the Kyoto Prefectural School of Painting. In 1901 (Meiji 34) he moved to Tokyo and became active in the central art circles as a member of the Japan Art Association.
