Description
This hanging scroll of lotus in freehand style was painted by Kangsheng using his left hand. Large bold brushstrokes of dense ink form the lotus leaves, presenting thick, powerful ink tones with masterful treatment of void and solid forms. The lotus blossoms are rendered in bright crimson with vivid yellow stamens, creating striking colour contrast. Several tall lotus stalks on the right are drawn with continuous central strokes, interspersed with seed pods and buds. The composition is well-balanced with ample blank space. The brushwork is forceful and unrestrained, embodying the spirit of literati painting. The vertical calligraphic inscription notes it was painted with the left hand, completed with seal, a fine flower work by the artist.
