LOT 0075

Karabagh

[ translate ]

Second half 19th century, 210 x 150 cm, South Caucasus, Azerbaijan

Three large medallions, their octagonal centres surrounded by abstract animal figures, take up most of the blazing red field. The third medallion is cut by the upper border. Small animals, blossoms and stepped polygons in a seemingly spontaneous distribution complete the field design. In the white main border, hexagonal cassettes combine into a design chain. The reciprocal design could also be read as facing pairs of inward-pointing double hooks. In the middle of the left-hand band, the rhythm is suddenly interrupted by a box motif that looks like a salt bag. – Good condition, the original selvedges survive.

TABIBNIA, MOSHE, Kazak del XIX Seculo. Mailand 1995, Tf.33 *** RIPPON BOSWELL, A 80, 19.05.2012, #155 *** TEPPICH-ENGELHARDT (Hrsg.), 75 Naturperlen unter den Teppichen des Orients. Mannheim 1973, Nr.232
