Karachov Kazak
Late 19th century, 214 x 163 cm, South West Caucasus
A Karachov of this particular sub-group using box medallions and red polygons in a green field was published in Grote-Hasenbalg’s work as early as 1922. The field is bordered by a chequerboard pattern surround which forms a bridge-shaped arch at both ends. The design of the main border – confronting halves of hooked diamonds and a white vine zigzagging between them – is reminiscent of Borjalou Kazaks. – Slight signs of age and wear, somewhat low spots in the pile, minor repiled areas. Original selvedges.
