Karachov Kazak
Second half 19th century, 250 x 144 cm, South West Caucasus
A Karachov of this sub-group using box medallions and red polygons in a green field was published in Grote-Hasenbalg’s work as early as 1922. The field is bordered by a chequerboard pattern surround which forms a bridge-shaped arch at both ends. A change in design can be observed in the white main border: the weaver began by using hooked diamonds, then she decided to draw star-shaped blossoms with four diagonal arms ending in buds. – Very good condition, original finishes all around.
