Karadashli Main Carpet
mid 19th century, 276 x 140 cm, Central Asia, West Turkestan
The field design consists of kepse guls spaciously arranged in flat colour diagonals on a red-brown ground. The white main border contains a Turkmen wavy vine surrounding discrete curled leaves. The format, the mosaic-style minor borders and the knotted elems, which show a rare frieze of flowering trees, suggest that this rug is the work of a Karadashli subtribe.
Condition
Some repairs in the red field. Cut sides, replaced selvedges.
