Karsh: A Fifty-Year Retrospective by Yousuf Karsh.
First Edition, Second Printing, 1983 by New York Graphic Society / Little, Brown and Company, 1983.
176 duotones, 12 color illustrations in volume 10.5 x 11.5 inches.
The most renowned portrait photographer of our time has repeatedly-and unforgettably- photographed the statesmen, artists, literary and scientific figures who have shaped our lives. It is the first book on Karsh to include a large group of photographs of people not in the public eye, and of his early works and experiments. It is the first book to represent his work in color. It is also by far the largest publication on Karsh with over 2000 images from Franklin Delano Roosevelt to Ronald Reagan to Pope John Paul II, H.G. Wells to Graham Greene, from Augustus John to Andy Warhol, from the young Bette Davis to Sophia Loren in splendid maturity. One of the features of this book is the first-time presentation of multiple portraits. The photographer contributes a substantial autobiographical section with personal photographs.
