One sculpture from the series, in mixed media, plaster, silicone, fabric, ceramic tiles 20x30 cm, 2020-2021. “In this series of sculptures, I continue to work on the theme of the psychological flow of living life hidden under the skin of household routine . A small man in a big world, in a big system of household rules. In this work, I wanted to show our fragility in this space of seemingly completely simple everyday actions: holding a rag, holding a fork, holding a razor… Why can these simple actions become unbearable at some point? What can make the hand holding the usual coffee cup tremble slightly?” The work was presented at the Zverev Center for Contemporary Art, and other works in the series are in private collections.

Born and raised in St. Petersburg. As a child she finished the state art school (5 years). As the first professional higher education she graduated from the faculty of psychology (2007) and postgraduate (2013), then Kate Finkelstein got the supplementary professional education "Contemporary art" at The British higher school of art and design in 2019.

Since 2018 she has been actively exhibiting in Moscow, there are victories in art-competitions and open calls. Her works became participants of projects in 58th La Biennale di Venezia, 8th Moscow International Biennale of Contemporary Art, 1st Microbiennale of Horizontal Initiatives, 7th Moscow International Biennale of Young Art.

Artist is a resident of the work studious at the gallery “Elektrozavod" (Moscow).

Kate Finkelstein is one of the founders and organisers of the art community YRA! (Young Russian Artists), based in Moscow.

Since 2019 she keeps curatorial practices by organising contemporary art projects, one of them “Assemblage Points” became a part of the 8th International Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art.

The main idea of her art practice – to create art-work is to create a field of multidimensional human experience: “I do not make art-objects, I create art-fields”. The artist works mainly in the genre of site-specific installation using variety of mediums. Kate Finkelstein rethinks mental / conscious/ unconscious phenomena, creating bizarre forms – connects various objects, ready-mades, plants and tissues with silicone, soap and other materials. Also Kate Finkelstein works with photography, using cyanotype and printing on unusual objects.
