Kate Shlepova is a Canadian visual artist of Russian origin. Kate was born in Alma-Ata (modern
Kazakhstan) but spent almost all her childhood in the Far East and, mostly, in Ukraine. After spending her early 20s in Moscow, she moved to Canada with her family. In Canada, Kate developed a successful career as a fashion designer. She graduated from a prestigious George Brown College Fashion Design program in Toronto with distinction. Kate was privileged to participate in numerous fashion shows where her creations received a very positive reception from critics. In 2013 Mrs. Shlepova established her own fashion brand IKaterina and created a few collections for it. Canadian TV and movie star Yannick Bisson presenting Kate's outfits at the show was one of the career highlights. Kate with her models. In the middle of the 2010s, Kate embraced a new artistic path and began her journey as a visual artist. She was admitted to a Georgian College Visual Art program and successfully finished it in 2 years. Nowadays, Kate is well known for her experiments with different artistic media. Her artworks reflecting a very diverse experience of her personal and professional life are in demand of art lovers in Canada and other countries. Mrs. Shlepova is a mother of 3 grown children. So when she heard about the "Heart for Melissa" project, Kate immediately decided to make her input and donated one of her artworks for it. The artwork Teal Illusion consists of
2 parts:
• Acrylic mix painting on 3D
surface (size 92x92 cm),
• Set of unique glossy coasters
(10x10 cm) created with the
same paints.
The main idea of the artwork is to show how you can create a very different visual, tactile, and even practical experience with the same means. Kate finds that philosophically that reflects our lives in many senses. Symbolically, the artwork was delivered for auction directly from Canada despite the unusual restrictions.
