Kazak
mid 19th century, 223 x 156 cm, South West Caucasus
A Kazak in an extraordinary design. The extra wide border of rectangular compartments equal in width and design, but diverging in colour, appears like a mosaic floor. Each compartment encloses a diamond with two double hooks at its vertical tips. The narrow central field comprising three Memling guls on a white ground looks like a small rug placed on the surface. The Kazak may belong to the Borjalou group.
Condition
Slight signs of age and wear as well as a number of minor repairs. The brown sections are somewhat corroded in places. Sides and finishes replaced.
