Kazak
First half 19th century, 232 x 121 cm, South West Caucasus
An early Kazak of the three-compartment type woven in transparent colours. Decorated with floral and geometric motifs, the two red and one green compartments are framed by an inner surround of reciprocal trefoils. The wide, white main border displays a rare design of large hooked box shapes alternating with hooked diamonds. – Obvious signs of age and wear, the pile is worn away in places; minimally reduced ends, slightly damaged original selvedges.
