Kelim - 320 cm - 225 cm

I present this large Bulgarian Chiprovtsi kilim. These kilims are still being made in Chiprovtsi and Pirot in neighboring Serbia in increasingly smaller quantities and by fewer and fewer master weavers. Around the world they are more famous as Sarkoy or Manastir rugs, but mostly they were made in the Balkans during the Ottoman era and afterwards.

This kilim is quite large (320x225 cm) and is made from finely spunned wool on cotton base. The weaving is very labor intensive and a large piece like this one may take a few months depending on the complexity of the model. The end result is a beautiful, durable rug with two identical sides. All the materials, including the dyes are natural. With good care it will last generations.
