Ken Currie, Scottish b.1960 - The Street, 1990; indian ink on paper, 53 x 70.5 cm (ARR) Note: Currie attended the Glasgow School of Art, and is often linked to fellow students such as Steven Campbell, Peter Howson and Adrian Wiszniewski. Currie’s work frequently depicts his native Glasgow, and is strongly saturated with a sense of social tension in the city and its surroundings in the late 20th century, a theme which is strongly evident in this piece. Currie’s significance in the development of 20th century Scottish art is demonstrated by the presence of his work in the collections of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, the Fleming Collection, and the Ingram Collection, amongst others.
