Maker: "Bertima" by Kern & Sohne

History of Maker: Karl Kern was a plant foreman at Kienzle who, in 1929, purchased the company’s 400-day clock tools and dies and started his own firm. Kern worked with his partner J. Link to produce 400-day clocks until 1932 when the partnership dissolved, and Kern continued making clocks on his own as Kern Uhrenfabrik. In 1937, Kern was joined by his sons to form the company Kern & Sohne. Today, Kern & Sohne is one of only 2 German companies from the early 20th century to remain family owned through its entire history and is also the only company still producing mechanical 400-day clocks.
