Kashan was derived from the Persian kashi, which means 'tile'. The Kashan carpets look very elegant, their balanced patterns in floral ornamentation and subtle fullness of ivory/beige and blue contrasting colours are very popular in Europe. Entwined flower garlands often surround a diamond-shaped medallion. The corners are also richly decorated. Kashans are exclusively knotted at home. Depending on the quality, the knotting density is between 250,000 and 600,000 knots per square metre.
