Sandstone sculpture showing a Dvarpala temple guardian holding a club. Large relief fragment of an ancient temple. This Hindu deity was the guardian of the doors of Hindu temples or monasteries. It is represented in human form armed with a club. These representations were commonly present in pairs on either side of the door jambs. The sculpture is surrounded by curved architectural details with a stylised arc in flames, forming a corner. It is extremely well preserved despite signs of wear and tear. The details are precise, the face remains expressive, all the parts are present, only a small break under the base. South East Asia, probably Thailand, Khmer empire, circa 12th/13th century.
