Kickapoo Tribesman
Full length studio portrait of a seated Native American man. Stroud, Oklahoma Territory: H.C. Chaufty, ca 1900. "Ocosee" in image. Photographer's information stamped to mount verso alongside pencil inscription which reads "Kickapoo".
The man appears to be middle-aged and wears a wonderful flower-print shirt and other traditional attire. The photo’s clarity allows the viewer to inspect the wonderful small details of these garments, such as the sitter’s worn moccasins. Scratched into the original emulsion between the subject’s legs appears to be the word “Ocosee”; if this is a proper name we can not definitively identify him.
[Native Americans, Indian Territory, Early Photography, Historic Photography, CDV, CDVs, Carte de Visite, Cartes de Visite, Carte-de-visite, Albumen, Cabinet Card, Boudoir Card]
