Klemens Chodykiewicz. The Two Transfers of the Most Holy Mother of God, Mary, Depicted in Her Holy Image, from the Chapel to the Archcathedral of Lviv. And from the Church of the Struggling to the Church of the Triumphant [...] Explained in Two Sermons published by [...]. Lviv 1766. Academic Printing House of the Collegium Societatis Jesu, folio, p. [20], vignette (copperplate engraving), unbound.
E. does not list this edition (cf. E.XIV, 189). Two sermons delivered by Klemens Chodykiewicz (1715–1797), a Dominican friar and historian dedicated to documenting the history of the Ruthenian Province of the Order of Preachers. The image of Our Lady of Grace, the Beautiful Star of Lviv, was permanently transferred to the Latin Cathedral in Lviv in 1776 by Archbishop Wacław Hieronim Sierakowski and subsequently crowned with papal crowns. The print was dedicated by the artist to Józef Antoni Podoski (1710–1779), Voivode of Płock and President of the Commission of the Crown Army of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, whose coat of arms, “Junosza,” is depicted in a copperplate engraving on the title page. An exquisite engraving by Teofil Trockiewicz (18th century), a Lviv engraver specializing in reproducing images from church paintings, considered one of the finest engravers of his time in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Some staining; the edges of the last few pages have been reinforced; otherwise, in very good condition.
